2014 Flower Festival and Well Dressing

August Bank Holiday is a busy week in Holymoorside. There are the Well Dressings, this year about the part women played in WW1, Bagpuss and the Wizard of Oz. There is a scarecrow trail, this year’s topic was Nursery Rhymes. There is an ecumenical service in the Village Hall linked with the well dressing. On the Saturday the council runs an event which this  year was special as a tree was planted in the Remembrance Garden and the soldiers from the village who died  were remembered.

The organisers of the Flower Festival in the United Reformed Church decided to remember the war in a different way. Each flower arrangement representing a song of the era was sponsored by a local society or individual. In the Meeting Room was an exhibition of Memorabilia from the war.  Refreshments were served by church members.

We thank everyone for their hard work which made this event such a success.
