Women's World Day of Prayer: Friday 2 March 2018

Women's World Day of Prayer -  Friday 2 March 2018

Women's World Day of Prayer is a worldwide movement of Christian women who come together to observe a common day of prayerPicture of purple daisies held on the first Friday in March each year.

The Day of Prayer begins as dawn breaks over the islands of Tonga in the Pacific and continues across each continent until the last Service of this special day are held back on the islands of Samoa, encircling the world in prayer for about 36 hours.  170 countries and islands uniting together in praise, worship and in prayer.  In England, Wales and Northern Ireland over 5,000 services will be held, focusing on the theme of 'All God's Creation is Very Good'.

The Day of Prayer service for 2018 has been written by the Christian women of Suriname and is on the challenging theme of our misuse of God's Creation through selfishness and thoughtlessness: a highly relevant subject in today's world. Caring for God's very good Creation is hugely important to people of all ages and beliefs.

If you lived in a country where 90% of the population were living 2 metres or less above sea level, it would bring into stark reality what stands to be lost as sea levels rise and extreme weather conditions become increasingly frequent. One such country is Suriname.

The Day of Prayer service has been translated into over 60 languages and 1,000 dialects.

This is not simply a day of prayer for women, but for everyone who cares about our world and those who live in it. Everyone is welcome to attend any of the services, men, women and young people are all very welcome.
